United For Progress team has solid lead in Wauconda

Wauconda voters are overwhelmingly supporting three incumbent trustees and an activist who ran on their slate, early Election Night results show.

Trustees Linda Starkey, Chuck Black and Ken Arnswald and political rookie Tim Howe ran together as the United For Progress team, and all four were leading Tuesday night.

With votes in all 11 precincts counted, they're topping the members of the For Wauconda slate: Trustee Joseph Coster, who was appointed to fill a vacancy last year; newcomers Dwight Thomas and Jason Anderson; and Wauconda Park District Trustee Bob Cook.

Early votes have not yet been counted.

The eight candidates were split into two races.

Howe was way ahead for the single 2-year term, leading Coster 721-233, unofficial results showed.

Starkey, Black and Arnswald were far ahead in the race for the 4-year terms, topping the other three For Wauconda slate members.

Unofficial results showed Starkey was first with 739 votes, Arnswald was second with 706 votes and Black was third with 692 votes.

Rounding out the pack, Cook had 264 votes, Anderson had 193 votes and Thomas had 186 votes.

The slates were divided on several issues. Perhaps most significantly, the United for Progress candidates strongly supported keeping the village's 911 center open, while their rivals either backed outsourcing or didn't express definitive opinions.
