Newcomer Macek to join Antioch village board

In his first bid for public office, insurance agent Ed Macek appears to have won a seat on the Antioch village board.

He'll join incumbents Mary Dominiak and Jay Jozwiak, who won their re-election bids Tuesday. With all 13 precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Dominiak led the pack of four candidates seeking three seats with 1,369 votes; Jozwiak earned 1,222 votes.

Macek received 1,148 votes, edging out incumbent Dennis Crosby, who landed in fourth with 975 votes.

"I'm shell shocked," Macek said when reached at a celebration party Tuesday night.

"I'm a lifelong resident of Antioch and I'm gosh-darn happy to serve the town I love," Macek said.

Voters sent a message, Macek said, that they want to "see more business and less talk" from the board. His decade on the town's police commission has acquainted him with current board members and he sees a smooth transition.
