Incumbent slate cruises to victory in Barrington village board race

The slate of incumbent trustees Robert Windon and Jim Daluga, along with running mate Jason Lohmeyer, claimed a clear victory Tuesday in the race for the Barrington village board.

The three ran against a slate of challengers - Mike Kozel, JoAnn Fletcher, Maureen E. Yates - who opposed the direction the village's downtown projects have taken under the current board's leadership.

With all 9 precincts counted early Wednesday morning, Daluga had 865 votes, Lohmeyer had 829, Windon had 775, Kozel had 646, Fletcher had 564 and Yates had 527, according to unofficial numbers from Cook and Lake counties early Wednesday morning.

Windon, who was first elected in 2011, said he was honored that Barrington residents entrusted him and his running mates with four more years on the board.

One of the main points of contention between the two slates has been two ongoing downtown projects: the Barrington Village Center, a commercial complex that will contain restaurants and businesses, and the Barrington White House, a Victorian-era house that is being converted into a space for community functions, events and office space for local nonprofit agencies.

Windon said voters he spoke with are excited about the developments.

"Even though there is work to be done, people realize the village is in good shape as well as from an economic development standpoint," Windon said.

Kozel had questioned the White House project's value to the community, and all members of his slate said the Village Center project should have included residential space.
