Incumbents, Siegal win in Dist. 120

Both incumbents and a former employee won seats on the Mundelein High School District 120 board Tuesday, though only eight votes separate two candidates with the lowest vote totals.

With all 32 precincts reporting, incumbents Joanne R. Anderson and Al Hitzke received 1,497 and 1,240 votes respectively, according to unofficial results. Former Mundelein High employee Jane Siegal won her first term on the board with 1,385 votes.

Former board member Edwin Specht narrowly lost out on a return to the board with 1,232 votes, eight shy of Hitzke's totals.

It's unknown if Hitzke will challenge the results of Tuesday's election. There is no automatic recount provision in Illinois.

Anderson, the finance coordinator for Grayslake Elementary District 46, has served on the Mundelein High board since 2011.

Siegal is a retired social worker at the school.

Hitzke, who works for the Chicago Cubs, has served on the school board since 2003.

Meanwhile, Specht is attempting to return to a board he once served on from 2006 to 2013. He said he decided to run again at the urging of one of his children.

The race was a relatively quiet one. The district has been running smoothly for several years, without the financial problems that have plagued other Lake County schools.
