Dussling, Kreutzer, Petro win re-election to Dist. 214 board

Three incumbent candidates were re-elected Tuesday to the Northwest Suburban High School District 214 board.

With all precincts reporting, Bill Dussling had 11,145 votes, Alva Kreutzer had 9,944 votes and F. Daniel Petro had 9,437 votes to fill three seats on the board, according to unofficial election results.

Challenger Kevin Lindell had 8,185 votes.

"I think the community is fairly pleased with what District 214 has done and the record we have," Dussling said. "For the next term, the biggest thing is what is going to happen with the money coming out of the state and how that's going to impact us."

Dussling, of Arlington Heights, has been on the board since 1998.

"I enjoy what I'm doing," he said. "It's very rewarding to see these students participating in events and watch all the talent they have. It's truly amazing."

Kreutzer, who lives in Elk Grove Village, said she is most concerned with pensions and said she thinks it is only a matter of time before that expense is passed onto school districts. She has been on the District 214 board for 16 years and before that was on the Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59 board.

"We have a savings account and some schools don't," she said. "When we do eventually get that handed to us - and I really do believe we will eventually get it - our savings will help us while other districts are not going to be in a good spot."

The board got some criticism for the nearly $45 million in building improvements it approved last year, but Kreutzer said the district is fiscally responsible.

"I know there were concerns about the money we spent on capital improvements," she said. "We need to do a better job of telling people how we save money. We are good stewards of the money and that's good because there are going to be some tough issues coming down."

Petro, who lives in Arlington Heights, was first elected to the District 214 board in 2011 after being on the Arlington Heights Elementary District 25 board from 1997 to 2009.
