Skillicorn, Lynam, Hall win in East Dundee

With all four precincts counted, unofficial totals show incumbents Allen Skillicorn and Jeffrey Lynam, plus newcomer Alan Hall won seats on the East Dundee Village Board Tuesday.

Skillicorn received 74 percent of the votes with 301, followed by Lynam with 280 and Hall with 245.

Former trustee and former mayor Jerald Bartels garnered 75 votes, while newcomer Alan Hall received 44 percent of the votes with 180.

Skillicorn and Lynam were elected to a second term. Bartels was seeking a third term on the board.

Hall campaigned as an advocate for those on fixed incomes and was against the creation of any more TIF districts in the village.

Bartels, who was ousted in 2013 from the mayor's office, losing to Trustee Lael Miller, spoke of continuing the village's legal battle to keep the Walmart at 620 Dundee Ave. from relocating in neighboring Carpentersville. Walmart is the single largest generator of sales tax revenue - roughly $800,000 yearly - for the village. He also said the village needs to trim its budget, particularly its spending on special events.

Skillicorn and Lynam said it's time to think about how to replace Wal-Mart rather than keep it. Both candidates also are in favor of special events spending.

Hall said losing Walmart would hurt the village, but would also open up space to redevelop that shopping center.

During an election forum, Skillicorn and Bartels both said they were in favor of moving toward a more part-time police force. Lynam said he was in favor of increasing the village reserves in case of emergency.
