Warren splits; Antioch rolls

In a doubleheader Saturday, Warren's baseball team earned a 5-2 win over DC Everest and suffered a 1-0 defeat to Oconomowoc (Wis.).

In the Blue Devils' win over Everest, Chris Mathieu led Warren with 2 hits, including a double.

Andrew Hill and Ben Perner also had doubles.

Ryan Davila was the winning pitcher with 3 strikeouts in two innings.

Against Oconomowoc, Mathieu and Stephen Binstock each had 2 hits for the Blue Devils.

Antioch 12, Wheeling 3: Antioch jumped out to a 7-2 lead after the first inning.

Dominic Olesak paced the Sequoits with 3 hits while Conner Geidner and John Neville each had 2 hits.

Both of Geidner's hits were doubles.

John Petty and Olesak each had a double as well.

Austin Marsiglio drove in 2 runs for Antioch with a home run.

Justin Stender picked up the win on the mound. He rolled up 10 strikeouts over six innings. He also allowed just 2 walks.

Lakes 13, Grayslake North 3: Lakes scored 10 runs over the final two innings to get the win.

Matt Putman went 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in 4 runs to lead the Eagles. Lakes also got 2 hits apiece out of Chase Slota and Matt Nordlund.

Lakes (2-4-1) finished with a total of 12 hits.

Senior lefty Jeremy Mackey got the win on the mound in relief. He allowed no runs and no hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Alex Carrillo, Drake Isaacs and Jake Damore each drove in runs for Grayslake North.

Grant sweeps: Grant breezed by Wilmot in a doubleheader 17-1, 13-3.

In the first game, Nick Heidenthal went 2-for-2 with a grand slam.

Andrew Stone was the winning pitcher with 3 strikeouts in three innings.

In the second game, Michael Bengston had 2 home runs while James Pendley went 3-for-4 with a double. Pendley drove in 3 runs.

Winning pitcher Hunter Sadoski had 5 strikeouts over five innings.

Elk Grove 3, Grayslake Central 2: Grayslake Central out-hit visiting Elk Grove 7-5 but could not overcome 11 strikeouts in the nonconference loss.

The Rams, who lost their third game in a row, including back-to-back 1-run decisions, got 2 hits apiece out of Jay Hoffman and Ben Fitzgerald.

"This was an exciting game for early April, but we are just making too many mistakes in close games," said Grayslake Central coach Troy Whalen, whose team falls to 4-5. "Things become more magnified in close games and we just need to execute better."
