Going to Lollapalooza or Coachella? Leave the selfie stick at home

Everyone huddle up, I have an announcement: If you are attending Coachella and/or Lollapalooza this year, you cannot bring your selfie stick. Selfie sticks won't be allowed at the festivals, according to posts on their websites.

Actually, if we're being specific, Coachella says that "SELFIE STICKS/NARSISSTICS" are apparently banned at the desert festival, which ... are we saying "NARSISSTICS" now? Is that a thing? I mean I'm fine with it, I guess? Just asking.

If you're currently rejoicing because you think this will cut down on the amount of obnoxiousness at these music fests, I'm sorry, it's gonna take a lot more than a selfie stick ban to accomplish that. But let's just call it a step in the right selfie-stick-free direction.

This is hardly the first time that selfie sticks have come under fire, of course. They're prohibited at event venues and landmarks across the world - on game days in some Premier League grounds, at historical sites and at various locations where priceless pieces of art are on display.

"From now on, you will be asked quietly to put it away," Sree Sreenivasan, chief digital officer at the Met, told The New York Times earlier this year. "It's one thing to take a picture at arm's length, but when it is three times arm's length, you are invading someone else's personal space."

According to various reports, here's a brief list of well-known places where your selfie sticks are not welcome:

• The Art Institute of Chicago

• The Palace of Versailles

• The National Gallery in London

• The Colosseum

• Wembley Arena

• The Smithsonian museums

• Emirates Stadium

• The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

• The Metropolitan Museum of Art
