Palatine parks hosting 'Breakfast Of Champions' food dive

Help those in need start their day in a healthy way. Join the Palatine Park District in its Breakfast of Champions Food Drive.

The food drive will be conducted through Wednesday, April 15. Donations can be dropped off at the registration/reception areas of Community Center, Birchwood Recreation Center, Falcon Park Recreation Center, and Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center.

Like any large organization, Palatine Park District has several staff committees to facilitate special projects and events.

The Palatine Park District Service Committee was formed two years ago with the mission of providing a variety of service opportunities to both staff members and the community throughout the year. A few of the committee's projects include assisting with environmental cleanup events, hosting drives for food, pets, and books, creating valentines for veterans for National Day of Service, and serving at Feed My Starving Children.

In an effort to make a difference right here in the Palatine community, the Service Committee's is coordinating the Breakfast of Champions Food Drive. Collected items will be delivered to the Palatine Township Food Pantry by members of the committee.

While all donations of nonperishable items are welcome, the committee has decided to concentrate on breakfast theme. Nonperishable items needed at this time by the Palatine Township Food Pantry include: Cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, strawberry jelly, coffee, tea, juice, muffin mix, baking mix, pancake mix, syrup, and granola bars. This themed event was last offered in 2013; 585 pounds of food were collected and delivered to the Palatine Township Food Pantry.

Palatine Park District staff who are volunteering their time as members of the Service Committee include Donelda Danz, Jean Farrar, Trish Feid, Debbie Keenan, Tom Landeck, Dan Mangum, Michael Noens, Marilyn Pedersen, Christine Rice, Karen Rude, Lisa Schroeder, and Joan Scovic. Many other Palatine Park District staff members have also volunteered to help with committee projects and events.

For more information about the Breakfast of Champions Food Drive, please contact Joan Scovic, food drive coordinator, at (847) 496-6287 or jscovic@palatineparks.org.

The mission of Palatine Park District is to provide a variety of safe, enjoyable and affordable parks and recreation facilities and activities that will enhance the quality of life by promoting good health and well-being for all residents and visitors of the Palatine Park District.
