April 9: Learn what's new in computer science at CLC STEM speaker series

Dale Reed, a clinical professor in the computer science department at the University of Illinois Chicago will give the next STEM Speaker Series talk on April 9 at the College of Lake County.

His presentation, "Magicians of the Modern Age: Getting Computer Science to work for you" starts at 6:30 p.m. in the C Wing Auditorium, Room C005, CLC Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St. The C Wing entrance is closed because if construction of the new Science and Engineering Building. Please enter at the B Wing and park in lot 4 or 5.

Reed will discuss how computers are being used in all areas of science and in the world around us, including new communication approaches and tools. He is a founding member of the Computer Science Teachers' Association in Chicago, is a national professional development facilitator for Code.org and is on the College Board committee creating the new AP Computer Science Principles exam. Reed has given presentations to over 10,000 high school students since 2006.

The next STEM event is a Robotics Festival on June 10, which will include hands-on activities and exhibitions by local robotics teams.
