Carol Stream seeks input for comprehensive plan

Carol Stream residents have until next week to share their vision for the future of the village through an online survey.

The survey results will be used to help create the village's new comprehensive plan, which will outline long-term goals and objectives for the community.

"Essentially, it's a policy document that helps give the village staff, the plan commission and ultimately the village board some direction when they're faced with making decisions about developments or future land uses or projects for the community," Assistant Community Development Director Don Bastian said.

Bastian said comprehensive plans are supposed to be based on feedback from residents. The village's most recent public meeting regarding the plan was in March.

The online survey will be open through April 6. It asks residents to rank priorities, such as economic development and housing, and to identify opportunities for improvement.

"We're trying to engage the community and get community input about what the people who live here and work here want to see happen in the future," Bastian said.

The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning is spearheading the project and already has prepared an "existing conditions" report for the village, Bastian said.

He said CMAP will begin preparing a draft plan once all the feedback is gathered and considered.

Adopting a new comprehensive plan has been on the village's wish list for a long time. Its last such plan was completed more than 25 years ago.

The cost of creating the plan is being covered by a grant from CMAP.
