Violation of trust disqualifies candidate
There is an important election in Long Grove on April 7, and we should be voting for candidates with integrity.
Stanley Borys does not possess the requisite integrity to be one of our trustees, and he should not receive our votes. This week Mr. Borys, a current trustee, deliberately used information discussed in executive session to advance his personal political agenda.
The village holds executive sessions after public board meetings to speak privately about sensitive issues that if discussed in public could put the village at a disadvantage. These private executive sessions involve confidential information on issues like collective bargaining, pending litigation, personnel, and investments that if made public could jeopardize the interests of the village. Ultimately final decisions and voting on these issues are done during public board meetings so the issues are not confidential.
What is confidential are the discussions among board members. Borys violated the trust of the people of Long Grove when a campaign mailer credited to him printed information that was discussed in executive session.
If Borys is willing to violate municipal ethics codes to win an election, then we cannot and should not trust him with our votes.
