Workshop will help you get back on your bicycle

If you've been thinking about getting back on a bicycle or maybe even taking up riding for the first time or just wondering what's new in bikes and accessories, join McHenry County Conservation District along with local biking and fitness experts for "Getting Back into Gear" from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 12, at Lost Valley Visitor Center in Glacial Park, Route 31 and Harts Road, Ringwood.

This workshop will help answer your questions and get you moving. Staff from The Bike Haven in McHenry will bring in a few styles of bicycles to help you determine the best fit for you, as well as review helmets, riding gear and other accessories. Weather permitting there may be a chance to test ride bikes after the presentations. Members from the district's Prairie Trail Safety Watch will share information on trail safety and etiquette, their favorite places to ride, why they love to ride, and more. A personal trainer from Centegra will discuss the health benefits of riding and share ways to prepare your body to ride and avoid injuries. District staff will provide inspiration with nature tales from the trails.

Come out for some camaraderie, encouragement and information that will have you ready to roll.

Registration and fee are required by Wednesday, April 8; free for county residents and $6 for nonresidents. It is for adults age 14 and older. Registration is accepted online at MCCDistrict.org, by phone for free programs only at (815) 479-5779; by mail-in and drop-off at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road in Crystal Lake; or drop-off only at Lost Valley Visitor Center, Route 31 and Harts Road in Ringwood.
