Grayslake North shuts out Grant

Sammie Villwock scored twice in the second half, and keeper Megan Davis made 3 saves in her first start of the season, as Grayslake North's girls soccer team blanked host Grant 3-0 in a nonconference match Tuesday night.

Sophomore Sydney Paez's goal off an assist from senior Jocelyn Rodriguez had the Knights up 1-0 at halftime. Paez assisted on Villwock's tally that made it 2-0, before Villwock converted a penalty kick to conclude the scoring.

Midfielders Paez, Maggie Fish and Teagan Johnson, defenders Morgan Lyon and Emily Smith, and freshman forward Lauren Davis also stood out for Grayslake North.

"After a long layoff from Spring Break, our girls wanted to get out there and put in a consistent, quality effort for the entirety of the game," Knights coach Adam DeCaluwe said.

"Defensively, we did a great job of giving Grant very little space."

Mundelein 3, McHenry 0: Christy Nambo and Katie Cauble each had a goal and an assist for the Mustangs in their nonconference win.

Emily Hay opened the scoring for Mundelein off an assist from Emily Ollendick. Lexi Pawlowski (2 saves) and Kelly Cigelnik (1 save) shared the shutout in goal.

Carmel 2, Warren 1: Angela Salvi scored a goal in each half for the Corsairs in the nonconference match.

Kayla Handel and McKenzie Runyan had assists.

Warren (1-1) got its lone goal from Ellen Szostak assisted by Grace Wiltgen.
