Palatine High alumnus honored for military service

This year, District 211 started a tradition to honor alumni for the service they have given to their country.

Palatine High School alumnus and Pvt. Second Class Trevor McLean was honored and thanked for his service in the Illinois National Guard by the board of education at its March 19 meeting. McLean is the fifth alumnus to be recognized for his service and started the meeting by leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

McLean graduated from Palatine High School in 2014 and completed basic training at Fort Jackson in December, 2014. He scored high on his PT test and completed his Advanced Individual Training. He is 91 Delta, which means Power Generation Equipment Repairer.

He is interested in going to college to study criminal justice or engineering. He said joining the National Guard was a way for him to learn things that most people do not experience on a day-to-day basis.

"It is a great experience and you definitely remember the friends you meet," McLean said. "You go through experiences together that you won't forget and learn different tactics and how to protect yourself. You also learn discipline, integrity, and major values you need to be successful in life."

The Board of Education will continue Military Recognitions for District 211 graduates, who are serving or have served before each meeting.
