Softball: Fox Valley roundup Tuesday, March 31
Senior Ryann Scully hit her first career grand slam home run Tuesday to spark the St. Edward softball team to a 9-1 win over Guerin in a Metro Suburban crossover at the Elgin Sports Complex. Scully went 3-for-4 in the win.
Junior Lindsay Zdroik fired a 1-hitter with 14 strikeouts and 1 walk to earn the win for the Green Wave (2-0-1). She also went 3-for-4 at the plate.
Also contributing to the offense for St. Edward were Megan Strong (2-for-4, RBI, SB), Allison Stratman (2-for-4, 2B, RBI), Devyn Ernst (2B, RBI), Rachel Lesh (2-for-4, 2B) and Shannon McShane (RBI).
CL South 11, Rolling Meadows 4: The Gators opened their season with a nonconference win behind a 3-hitter from sophomore Sam Burgard, who was also 4-for-5 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI. Also contributing to Crystal Lake South's 17-hit attack were Jenica Terry (3-for-4, RBI), Lauren Gauger (2-for-3, 2B) and Carly Chovanec (2-for-4, 2B, RBI). Sam Schetti also had a home run for the Gators.
Conant 4, Cary-Grove 0: Colleen Kaveney, Brianne Prank and Grace Pilz had Cary-Grove's only hit in this nonconference game. Amanda DeGroote took the loss for the Trojans (0-2).
DeKalb 11, South Elgin 1: Hannah Gordon's home run was South Elgin's only hit in this nonconference loss to the Barbs and ISU recruit Megan Newport. Rachel Weiss took the loss for the Storm (1-3).
Barrington 13, Jacobs 3: Emily Borg's 3-run home run accounted for the Golden Eagles' scoring in a nonconference loss at Barrington. Jessica Powell had the only other hit for Jacobs (0-2). Alexis Addante suffered the loss in the circle.
Burlington Central 17, Rockford Christian 0: Amanda Ratliff threw a 1-hitter to lead the Rockets (1-2, 1-0) to a Big Northern East win. Kristina Ahlers and Kassy Gaylord each had doubles for BC and Emily Kisch a triple.
Addison Trail 10, Elgin 9: Destiny West (3-for-4, 2B, RBI), Jemiyah Stewart (2-for-4, RBI) and Cassidy Sell (2B, 2 RBI) led the offense for the Maroons (0-4) in this nonconference loss. Jessica Rago took the loss for Elgin despite allowing just 4 earned runs. She struck out 7 and walked 5.
Belvidere 9, Hampshire 8: Aly Snider had a home run and Lauren Egger went 3-for-4 for Hampshire (2-4) in its nonconference loss. Haley WIdmayer was the losing pitcher.
