Oakton holding International Film Fest

Oakton Community College's 28th Modern Language Film Fest features 12 films in their original languages with English subtitles, showcasing the 13 languages the college offers.

Screenings are Monday, April 6, to Thursday, April 9, and are free and open to the public at the campuses in Des Plaines and Skokie.

Selections include:

• "Restoration" (Hebrew, 2011). A man comes face to face with his failings as a father and businessman as he struggles to make things right in this Israeli drama and winner of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival World Cinemas Screenwriting Award.

• "Chopin: Desire for Love" (Polish, 2002). Chopin's fortune changes when he encounters writer Amantine Dupine in Paris, but their affair is constantly undercut by ego and artistic ambition in this historical drama directed by award-winning Polish filmmaker Jerry Antczak.

• "The Grandmaster" (Chinese, 2013). Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Kar Wai Wong, this film spans the tumultuous Republican era following the fall of China's last dynasty, the golden age of Chinese martial arts.

• "A Coffee in Berlin" (German, 2012). This movie, which swept the 2013 German movie awards, paints a day in the life of Niko, a twenty-something college dropout going nowhere fast until a series of amusing encounters forces him to engage with life.

Other scheduled films include: "Wadjda" (Arabic, 2012); "Look at Me" (French, 2004); "Tahaan" (Hindi and Urdu, 2008); "Not of this World" (Italian, 1999); "Tokyo Sonata" (Japanese, 2008); "Punch" (Korean, 2011); "How I Ended This Summer" (Russian, 2010); and "Alamar" (Spanish, 2009).
