Conant's Rothstein aims to help out at Platteville

Conant softball first baseman Hailey Rothstein plans to study nursing or physical therapy, two fields in which helping others is the main focus.

In high school, Rothstein has focused on being helpful with community service, including Feed My Starving Children, Almost Home Foundation, Adopt a Sailor and Operation North Pole.

She has also found time to help her Cougars softball team win two Mid-Suburban League champions in the last three years.

Her powerful offensive game hardly went unnoticed by the staff of Wisconsin-Platteville, where Rothstein will spend her collegiate career.

"I saw Hailey play at a tournament and I was immediately interested," said Platteville coach Lee Negrelli. "She had great fundamentals around the bag at first base as well as a solid swing and good power. I believe she will be an excellent addition to our Pioneer softball program and she will certainly compete for a starting position as a freshman. Her potential is extraordinary and we are very excited to see what she can do at the next level."

A four-year varsity player, the left-handed hitting Rothstein had 7 home runs last year, including the team's 50th for the season. She had a .995 fielding percentage, .376 batting average, .720 slugging percentage and contributed 30 RBI for her team.

Rothstein is an IHSA Scholastic Achievement Award recipient, has maintained a 3.6-3.8 GPA all four years and is a member of the National Honor Society.
