Duke back in Final Four after 66-52 win over Gonzaga

A special group of freshmen is taking Duke and Coach K back to the NCAA Final Four. The Blue Devils and their trio of freshmen starters are going to their 16th Final Four, a record-matching 12th for coach Mike Krzyzewski, after a 66-52 win Sunday in the South Regional over Gonzaga. Duke (33-4), the region's No. 1 seed, is going to Indianapolis to play Michigan State in the Final Four. The other national semifinal game Saturday matches undefeated Kentucky and Wisconsin. Troubles grow for Campton Hills man accused of Geneva hospital assault

The legal woes are mounting for a 30-year-old Campton Hills man accused of trying to strangle a relative in January while at Delnor Hospital in Geneva. The assault caused a lockdown at the hospital and nearby schools while authorities searched for the suspect. Justin B. Patzer, who has a long history of drug abuse and theft, recently was indicted by a grand jury on upgraded charges of armed violence, accusing him of being armed with a knife during the offense. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison term without the chance of probation. Full story.

Alternative schools experience March Madness

Teams of junior high and high school students from 25 schools took part in the Chicago Area Alternative Education League's 37th annual CAAEL State Basketball Tournament & Art Fair, held at Forest View Education Center in Arlington Heights. "A lot of these kids have never had the opportunity to be part of a team," CAAEL Executive Director John Martin, the event's guiding force since he founded it in 1976, said. Full story.

Elgin man loses arm after accident at Bartlett pasta plant

A 25-year-old Elgin man had to have his left arm amputated after it was caught in an industrial mixing machine Friday at a pasta manufacturing plant in Bartlett, officials said. According to Batalian Chief Dave Misner of the Bartlett Fire Protection District, the man - whose arm was caught in the machine up to his elbow - was conscious and responsive when fire personnel arrived around 3 p.m. at Rana Meal Solutions LLC at 550 S. Gregor: Trout has the tools to repeat as AL MVP

In his column for Monday's paper, White Sox beat reporter Scot Gregor writes that Los Angeles Angels star center fielder Mike Trout is everything you want in a star baseball player and much, much more and the most likely player to win the AL MVP award. "But here is the most impressive quality - Trout is still a baby at 23 years old." Gregor writes that other American League stars who could take the top prize include White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu and Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano. Full column.

Cubs reporter Bruce Miles writes in his column for Monday's paper that the three position players most likely to win the NL MVP award, which was won by Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw in 2014, are Miami Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton, Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo and Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.
