Another delay in sex abuse trial of former Chicago Bulls player

The trial for a former Chicago Bulls player and coach accused of trying to sexually assault a massage therapist has been delayed again.

Defense attorney Stephen Simonian requested the trial of Eric "Rick" Brunson, 42, of Vernon Hills, be rescheduled to May 26 while awaiting additional test results.

Lake County Judge James K. Booras granted the request and set a case management hearing for May 11.

Court documents say Brunson assaulted an unidentified massage therapist and tried to force her to perform a sex act on him during an attack in a massage room at Lifetime Fitness in Vernon Hills in April 2014.

Brunson was charged with attempted criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual abuse, aggravated battery and domestic battery. He remains free from jail after posting the required 10 percent of his $50,000 bail.

Brunson, who coached and played in the NBA under the name Rick Brunson, faces three to seven years in prison if found guilty on the most serious charge.

He has been ordered to have no contact with the victim or the fitness center.

According to NBA.com, Brunson played for seven teams in nine years, including two stints with the Bulls - during the 2002-03 and the 2003-04 seasons. He also served as an assistant coach with the Bulls, Denver Nuggets and Charlotte Bobcats since retiring from the NBA in 2006.
