Jogger uses pepper spray to fight off Busse Woods assailant

A female jogger used pepper spray to fight off a man who attacked her Sunday evening as she ran through the Busse Woods forest preserve near Elk Grove Village, Cook County Sheriff's police said Monday.

According to a sheriff's office spokeswoman, the woman reported that she was jogging near Grove #4, located just north of Higgins Road, shortly before 6:40 p.m. when the man attempted to sexually assault her.

The woman, authorities said, was carrying pepper spray and used it on the attacker. She then was able to run away and call police, according to the sheriff's spokeswoman.

The woman was taken to an area hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and released, authorities said.

The attacker is described as a male, white in his early 30s. He's approximately 6-feet to 6-feet 3-inches tall and clean shaven. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants. The incident remains under investigation.
