Barrington police sergeants graduate from Northwestern program

Barrington police Sgt. Michael Hanson and Sgt. Michael Gorzelanczyk have graduated from the School of Police Staff and Command at Northwestern University's Center for Public Safety, the police department announced Monday.

To graduate, the sergeants completed the 10-week program that provides upper-level college instruction in topics including management and management theory, organizational behavior, human resources for law enforcement, budgeting, staffing allocation and personnel deployment.

The program, implemented by the Center for Public Safety in 1983, has graduated more than 14,000 students both nationally and internationally.

The Barrington Police Department anticipates a variety of benefits from Hanson's and Gorzelanczyk's attendance at this program. Many of the program's graduates go on to achieve a variety of leadership positions within their respective agencies. Currently, more than 750 graduates hold the title of chief of police, and 39 of the 50 directors of state police agencies also are graduates.
