Pension crisis is not real

Dear justices, there is no Illinois pension crisis. There is plenty of money to fully fund Illinois pension funds.

Conservative activists are manufacturing the perception of a public pension crisis in order to both slash modest retiree benefits and preserve corporate subsidies and tax breaks.

Public pensions in the U.S. face a 30-year shortfall of $1.38 trillion dollars, or $46 billion on an annual basis. This amount is dwarfed by the $80 billion a year states and cities spend on corporate subsidies.
