Softball: Fox Valley roundup Friday, March 27
Haley Widmayer and Jasmine Lopez combined on a no-hitter Friday as Hampshires softball team defeated Elgin 11-1 at The Dome at The Ballpark in Rosemont.
Widmayer had 6 strikeouts and Lopez added 3. Neither Whip-Pur walked a batter. Elgin's run, in the second inning, was unearned.
Leading the offense for Hampshire (2-3) were Lauren Egger (3-for-3, 3B, 2B, 4 RBI), Widmayer (2-for-4, RBI), Aly Snider (3-for-3, 2B, RBI) and Peyton DeChant (3-for-3, 3B, 3 RBI).
Monica Stockman took the pitching loss for the Maroons (0-4).
Antioch 12, Jacobs 5: Taylor Gagliano and Sarah Murray (3-for-3) each had 2 doubles but Jacobs fell in Katie O'Brien's first game as the Golden Eagles' head coach in a nonconference contest at the dome in Rosemont. Jessica Powell added a double for the Eagles, while Emily Borg had 2 RBI. Taylor Belo and Hailey Lonigro also drove in runs. Teaghan Richman suffered the loss in the circle.
