Vernon Hills dominates in shutout

Jack Duffley, Eric Weiler and Brendan Keogh combined on a 5-hit shutout, as Vernon Hills' baseball team defeated Northridge Prep 15-0 Thursday.

The pitching trio received more than enough run support, as the Cougars cruised to the five-inning victory. Connor McNamara homered and went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI, while Duffley helped his own cause by going 2-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI.

Tommy Earhart, Joey Marras, Chris Kahn, Drew Winegarder, Keogh, Nick Conrad and Matt Paszko also had hits for Vernon Hills.

Van Buren (Ark.) 13, Grayslake North 2: At the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, Fla., the Knights got a 2-for-3 effort from Merrick Gentile.

George Deligiannis and Brendan Taskovic had RBI for Grayslake North.

Horace Mann (N.Y.) 5, Grayslake North 2: At the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, Fla., Alex Carrillo for 2-for-2 for the Knights in their loss.

Griffin Zaba drove in a run for Grayslake North.

White Plains (Ala.) 10, Grayslake North 1: At the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Florida, the Knights managed just 2 hits in their loss.

Alex Carrillo knocked in Grayslake North's only run on a first-inning fielder's choice. George Deligiannis and Jake Damore had singles for the Knights.

Lakes 3, Triad 0: On Wednesday, the Eagles picked up their first win of the season behind Chase Slota's complete-game shutout.

The senior righty allowed only 2 hits while striking out seven and walking four.

Lakes got on the board early, putting up 2 runs in the top of the second inning. The Eagles added an insurance run in fifth. Senior Liam Fitzpatrick was 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead Lakes.
