Bartlett trustees, mayor pay tribute to late plan commissioner

If you're a developer who successfully brought business to Bartlett, you probably had to make it past Steve Kane.

For 21 years, Kane brought a "keen" scrutiny to the village's plan commission. He was a perfect fit, using his experience in architecture and engineering to tweak developers' designs for the better, Mayor Kevin Wallace said.

Kane, a Bartlett Little League and park district basketball coach, died last fall. He was 64.

Wallace and the village board recognized his tenure as plan commissioner - Kane was appointed Oct. 19, 1993 - earlier this month. Besides his village job, he was a retired Navy lieutenant commander and reviewed building plans for the city of Park Ridge.

"It is with a heavy heart, but with great appreciation and respect for Steve, that the village presents this honor to Steve's wife, Janet, for his 21 years of service to the community he loved as a member of the Bartlett plan commission," Wallace said.

Kane is survived by his wife, two sons and daughter.
