First United Methodist Church of Park Ridge Hosts Annual Plant Sale May 9

Now's the time to refresh your winter-ravaged garden with fresh, hardy perennials that will add lush green foliage and vibrant blooms throughout their growing season.

A good place to start is at the 6th annual perennial and garden sale, sponsored by the First United Methodist Church of Park Ridge on Saturday, May 9, 8 a.m. 'til noon. . Here, you'll find a huge variety of seasoned perennials. In past years, there are been upwards of 500 plants, represented by 130 varieties, including bearded iris, bee balm, celosia, coral bells, lady's mantle, hostas, ferns, peonies and even hydrangea, most bargain-priced at $6.00 for a generous container.

Perennials are the "greenest" of the green plants. They are self-sustaining, returning year after year, almost magically, without fuss or replanting. They survive well in our Midwest climate. In addition, they practically beg to be divided periodically to maintain healthy root systems. Start with one plant, and you could end up with several. Many of the plant sale perennials are recycled from the gardens of members and friends who thin out and divide their own prized plants. Additionally, plant stock is supplemented by

perennials purchased from nurseries. These plants are expertly potted in fresh, new soil. Then, each

plant is identified with a picture, description and designated "sun" or "shade". These seasoned plants are extremely robust and adapt well to new gardens.

Beautiful hanging baskets, featuring today's popular color pallets, geranium and herb pots are also available at extremely reasonable prices.

The 6th Annual Plant and Garden Sale is Saturday, May 9 - rain or shine ¬ -- from 8 a.m. until noon at the First United Methodist Church of Park Ridge, 418 West Touhy Avenue, Park Ridge. Parking is on Grant Place, one block north, behind the church. Come early for best selection.

This year, proceeds will support Youth Missions, No More Malaria, and Center for Changing Lives.
