New CEO for Elk Grove Village-based Kenneth Young Center

The Kenneth Young Center board of directors has appointed Susan E. Cowen as the Elk Grove Village-based social service agency's new CEO effective May 1, officials said Wednesday.

Cowen has spent 25 years working with nonprofits and has been executive director at Family Service of Glencoe since 2012. She will replace Mitchell Bruski, who is retiring after nearly 30 years at Kenneth Young - the last 24 as CEO.

David Bergman, the nonprofit's board chairman, said in a news release that Cowen has experience in fundraising, growing organizations, and working on state committees, which will make her a "strong advocate for Kenneth Young Center at a time when we face potential funding issues from the state."

Kenneth Young's services include mental health screening and treatment, counseling, and Meals on Wheels for seniors, primarily in Elk Grove and Schaumburg townships.
