Macabre memorial not best 9/11 remembrance

Wauconda will most likely have a 9/11 memorial with a beam from the North Tower as it's focal point. If the majority of the residents are in agreement, then so be it. Many are supporting this memorial, but many are afraid to speak out.

Countless have fought and died, so I may have the right to voice my opinion. Do not call me unpatriotic because I am expressing concerns. It would be a lie. The very real concept that the 9/11 tower beam would bring in revenue for Wauconda as a destination could not be more a more disgusting attribute of what some expectations are for this somewhat macabre memorial.

Lights, flags, flowers, benches, statues and plaques would be so much more appropriate. I personally have an extremely visceral reaction to the beam. I cannot be the only one that does not want to reflect next to this artifact. It belongs in a museum where one has the choice to see it.

It also invokes an extremely heartfelt reaction with me wondering how one would feel about the beam being displayed on Rt. 176 and Main Street in Wauconda, Illinois, after a loved one perished in the tower.

Who wants first option on the concessions and souvenir stand?
