Batavia High Key Club honored for community service
The Batavia High School Key Club, a sponsored youth program of the Batavia Kiwanis Club, recently was recognized at a statewide leadership conference for their dedication to service to the Batavia community.
Demonstrating significant leadership and oratorical qualities, Erin Tevonian, president of the Batavia Key Club, was awarded second place in the statewide oratorical contest. Attending the Illinois and Eastern Iowa Key Club District Convention along with Erin were the future officers of the Batavia Key Club to receive leadership training as well as gather information about Key Club International. They also had opportunities to meet other Key Club members from around the state and speak with representatives from the March of Dimes and Spastic Paralysis Research Foundation to swap service project ideas, including their "Mr. BHS" project.
Considered to be one of the finest service projects in the state, the Batavia Key Club won second place in the single service category for their "Mr. BHS" project as well as second place for the Robert Hall achievement award and first place for their donation to Spastic Paralysis Research, raising more than $7,000.
