Anderson Animal Shelter seeks Spokespet

Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin is searching for a pet to lead its inaugural Pets-a-Palooza Pet Parade and Festival fundraising walk, which will be held Sunday, Sept. 20, at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve in St. Charles.

"We're looking for a very outgoing pet adopted from Anderson, who is friendly to both people and other animals and who loves being in the spotlight," said Holly Alcala, the shelter's director of development. "Dogs tend to do best in public, but we don't want to exclude cats or even little critters, since we find homes for all of these types of animals here at the shelter."

All candidates for the 2015 Anderson Animal Shelter Pets-a-Palooza Spokespet must be alumni of Anderson, friendly with other pets and people, and available to attend media events and the Pets-a-Palooza event on Sept. 20.

"The Pets-a-Palooza event is a celebration of pets," said Beth Drake, the shelter's executive director. "What better way to celebrate than to feature a happy, adopted Anderson pet? We're very excited to hear from our adopters and we have no doubt there will be some wonderful stories to choose from."

Contestants should submit a short essay about why their pet should be the 2015 Pets-a-Palooza Spokespet, along with a photo.

Entries can be emailed to Beth Drake at bdrake@andersonanimalshelter.org and must be received by Friday, April 10.

The winner will be chosen from among the top 5 finalists by popular vote on the shelter's website the week of April 20.

This will be Anderson's inaugural year for Pets-a-Palooza, but the shelter plans to make it an annual event.

Along with the Pet Parade, this family-friendly event will feature pet-centered games, contests and demonstrations, as well as food and pet-themed merchandise.

Though the event itself is free, a registration fee will be required for the Pet Parade. More information is available on the shelter's website at www.andersonanimalshelter.org.
