1 dead in Aurora crash
A man was killed in a collision Tuesday afternoon which temporarily closed all lanes of the intersection of Eola and Diehl roads in Aurora.
Carlos Villegas, 89, of Carpentersville died after his car collided with a truck at about 1:20 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Eola and Diehl roads, officials said.
A preliminary investigation indicates Villegas was driving west on Diehl and apparently ran the red light at Eola, officials said. The car collided with a truck that was traveling north on Eola with a green light.
While the car was pushed across the roadway, the truck hit another vehicle driven by a 45-year-old woman who refused medical treatment. The truck driver also refused medical treatment.
Villegas' passenger, his 87-year-old wife, Dorothy, suffered nonlife-threatening injuries and has been treated at an Aurora hospital.
Everyone involved was wearing seat belts. There are no signs that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the incident, and no citations have been issued.
All lanes of Diehl and Eola were reopened Tuesday evening.
