Music notes: Loretta Lynn still a country girl

Miner's musical daughter

Groundbreaking in her look at women's issues as they stood in the 1960s, Loretta Lynn broke out with her first of 16 number-one hits, 1967's “Don't Come Home A' Drinkin' (With Lovin' on Your Mind).” She continued to earn her country superstar status with hit after hit and was the subject of 1980s biographical movie, “Coal Miner's Daughter.” Lynn's appearance at the Arcada Theatre Friday will bring a lifetime of country music and stories to St. Charles. 8 p.m. Friday, March 27, at the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main Street St. Charles. Tickets are $59 to $125; (630) 962-7000 or oshows.com.

Guitar aficionados

Do you like your singer-songwriter with a funky side? Jeff Brown walks that line, sometimes slow and melodic indie, sometimes digging deeper into emotions and rhythms like a good alternative rocker. He and his band — Jeff Brown & the New Black — are headed to the Metro in June, but before that you can catch him at Light the Lamp Brewery in Grayslake playing with Lake County musician Justin Yates. Yates brings a soulful dynamic to his guitar work that'll be a perfect fit for a Saturday night. 8 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at Light the Lamp Brewery, 10 N. Lake St., Grayslake. Free.
