NIU to stage romantic, comic opera

Northern Illinois University Opera Theatre, in collaboration with the NIU School of Theatre and Dance, will present the one-act romantic, comic opera "Bastien und Bastienne."

Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday, March 27, and 3 p.m. Sunday, March 29, in Boutell Memorial Concert Hall in the Music Building, 400 Lucinda Ave., on the NIU campus in DeKalb.

A very young Mozart wrote this short opera about two young lovers who can't seem to get on the same page without magical intervention. Both NIU School of Music students and faculty will perform. Lucia Matos is the music director and Anthony Perrella is the stage director.

Tickets can be purchased at the door before the performances. Tickets are $10; $7 for non-NIU students; free for NIU students with valid student I.D.
