Hersey falls short in season opener
Hersey allowed Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin just 4 hits over 6 innings, but the hosts made the most of them in a 4-2 nonconference victory as the Huskies dropped their baseball season opener on Monday.

Huskies starter Ryan Allain allowed only 2 hits but allowed 4 walks in his 4-inning stint, during which Sacred Heart-Griffin scored all of its runs.

Lucas Karz helped lead the way with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate, including a double and 1 RBI as the Knights produced 8 hits.
Mike Piotrowski went 2-for-3 with 2 walks, Grant Miller drove in 2 runs and the Knights collectively drew 10 walks while playing error-free defense.
Willie Sampson (3⅓ innings, 4 earned runs) and Ryan Molini (3⅔ innings, no earned runs) split the pitching duties for the Knights.
• Prospect earned a 7-4 victory over Lutheran South (Mo.) in its spring trip debut on Sunday.
Karz had the key hit, a 2-run triple that gave the Knights the lead as they produced a 5-run fifth inning. Jake Cavaiani doubled as Prospect belted out 11 hits.
Trey Compton had 2 hits and drove in 2 runs, and Karz and Matt Nadler both had 2 hits.
Wheeling 7, Grayslake North 4: Marty Falkiner doubled twice and Nathan Cooney and Brenden Spillane also doubled to help the Wildcats to a nonconference victory on Saturday.
Spillane and Falkiner both had 2 hits, while Cooney and Christian Hubbard both scored 2 runs to help make a winner of Cooney on the mound.
