Warren handles Huntley indoors

Warren's softball team kept up its hot start to the season Monday.

Jensen Plata was 2-for-4 with a double, as the Blue Devils improved to 4-0 by beating Huntley 6-4 at The Dome in Rosemont.

Hannah Nommensen (4-0) earned the win.

Carmel off 4-0 start: In downstate Jacksonville, the Corsairs improved to 4-0 with a pair of wins Sunday, as they defeated Salt Fork 7-4 and Regina 8-2. Amanda Elert homered against Salt Fork, while Claire Petrus was the winning pitcher. Mia Dicara picked up the win against Regina.

On Saturday, Carmel beat Rock Island 4-1 behind Petrus' pitching and home run. The Corsairs also pounded Jacksonville 13-2, as Dicara notched the win and Emma Bartz homered.

Lakes 3, Ramsey 0: On Sunday, Ally Perdue pitched a 2-hit shutout, as the Eagles opened their Florida trip with a win.

Melanie Grupka had 2 hits and an RBI for Lakes (2-0), while Rachel Becker contributed a hit, 2 walks and an RBI. The Eagles scored single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings.

Perdue struck out six.

"Pretty tough team," Lakes coach Bill Hamill said. "But we did well. It was a good defensive battle."
