Rauner's motorcade in collision; trooper injured

An Illinois State Police car that was part of Gov. Bruce Rauner's motorcade was in an collision Monday morning on I-55, injuring the trooper who was driving.

The vehicle in which Rauner was riding was not involved in the crash, Illinois State Police reported.

The injured trooper was taken to a hospital, treated and released, police reported.

The motorcade was headed south on I-55 at about 8:15 a.m. when one of the vehicles lost control and hit the back of a semi truck, state police reported. Snow was falling at the time in the Chicago area.

The motorcade was "completing a routine movement of Governor Rauner," police reported.

Rauner's public schedule included an 11:45 a.m. speaking engagement at the Decatur Conference Center and Hotel in Decatur, about three hours from Chicago in good weather.

Rauner spokesman Lance Trover declined to comment.

This is the second crash involving Rauner's motorcade in his less than three months in office. In January, a car spun out and hit the vehicle Rauner was riding in as it was stopped at a red light on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago.

He was uninjured in that crash, as well.
