Arlington Heights man killed in hit-and-run crash in Mount Prospect

Mount Prospect police are seeking witnesses to a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian Sunday night near the intersection of Algonquin Road and Briarwood Drive.

Police said a 46-year-old Arlington Heights man was struck by an unknown, dark-colored vehicle that was traveling east on Algonquin Road at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday. The man, whose name has not been disclosed, was rushed to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled for later today, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Mount Prospect Police Public Information Officer Greg Sill said no one has stepped forward with information about the crash yet.

"Right now with no witnesses and no vehicle our investigation is limited to the information we have (from the scene)," Sill said. "We are trying to see if any witnesses of the crash can help piece together how the accident occurred."

Sill said authorities know the victim's identity and will release it once the man's next of kin have been informed.

The crash shut down eastbound lanes on Algonquin Road for several hours Sunday night. Debris from the crash, including what looked like a black wool cap, was strewed about on the road and nearby sidewalk.

Sill encouraged anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the driver or the car to call the police department's Major Accident Investigation Team at (847) 870-5656.

Additionally, people can make anonymous tips by calling Crime Stoppers at (847) 590-7867 or text their tip to 274637. Crime Stoppers will give a reward of up to $1,000 for any information leading to an arrest and prosecution.
