Original Mustangs to be reproduced

The Ford Mustang celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014 and one company is turning back the hands of time.

Revology Cars is returning to the iconic model's roots with plans to crank out new original 'Stangs.

The Winter Park, Florida, company unveiled its 2016 Mustang Replica at last weekend's 20th anniversary Amelia Island Concours D'Elegance. At first glance, this retro ponycar looks almost identical to its vintage 1960s predecessor. However, a closer look reveals it's been revamped and ready for the modern age.

Tom Scarpello founded the company and is a former Ford employee, where he served as marketing chief for the automaker's Special Vehicle Team.

"Fifty years later and it (the Mustang) still looks great from any angle," Scarpello said. "But automotive technology has advanced a lot in 50 years, and from a functional perspective, these old cars are truly outdated."

Revology brings this vehicle up to speed by starting with an all-new, Ford-licensed body strengthened with heavier gauge structural steel. The chassis gets such things as power disc brakes, a front MacPherson strut suspension and power steering.

Under the hood, a fuel-injected 5.0-liter V-8 engine is installed. Transmission choices are either an automatic or five-speed manual. Occupant safety is enhanced with door intrusion beams, a collapsible steering column and three-point seat belts.

Inside the cabin you'll find modern and comfort conveniences like A/C, power windows, remote keyless entry, Bluetooth connectivity and USB and AUX ports. Revology worked hard to "maintain the integrity of the original design" by taking such steps as hiding the USB and AUX jacks in the ashtray and having the power windows activated by pushing or pulling on original-style window crank handles.

The lights are all LEDS, both inside and out.

The company provides a one-year, unlimited-mileage, bumper-to-bumper warranty plus three years on the powertrain and five years on the body. Both convertible and fastback body styles are available with the base price starting at $119,500.

Orders are being accepted now with estimated deliveries happening later this spring. The cars certainly aren't cheap but they're turnkey and ready to go. It could be just the ticket for those anxious to drive or those wanting to avoid the numerous headaches that can accompany any restoration or build.
