Libertyville looks sharp in opener
Jake Vogt went 2-for-2 with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI, as Libertyville's baseball team opened its season with a 14-6 win over Deerfield on Friday.
Riley Lees (2 runs), Eastern Illinois-bound Jimmy Govern and Ryan Jackson also had a pair of hits each for the Wildcats. Tim Calamari and Chase Patterson (3 runs) each was 1-for-1 with 2 RBI.
Andrew Plunkett got the start on the mound for Libertyville and pitched 3 scoreless innings, striking out five, for the win. Matt Friello tossed a scoreless seventh, striking out one and walking one.
Antioch 6, Marengo 2: Justin Stender pitched a complete game, allowing no earned runs in his 7 innings of work, striking out eight, walking three and scattering 6 hits.
Skender aided his own cause with a double, while Dominic Olesak also doubled for the Sequoits, who had 7 hits in their season opener. John Neville was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI for Antioch.
Lakes 5, Crystal Lake Central 5: Lakes' season opener in Crystal Lake was called due to darkness.
Lakes got solid pitching from senior Chase Slota, senior Steve Hibbing and junior Ben Milewski, as the three combined to allow just 1 earned run.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, they made 5 errors. The Eagles came to life offensively in the six inning. Trailing 4-1, Lakes scored 5 runs, highlighted by senior Matt Putman's two-out, 2-run single that put the Eagles up 5-4.
Crystal Lake Central scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh with two outs on a bloop single to right field.
