Aurora police searching for burglary suspect

Aurora police said Friday they are searching for a man charged with a Feb. 18 burglary of computer equipment and video games.

Police said an arrest warrant has been issued for Anthony D. Gant, 29, whose last known Aurora address was on the 1200 block of West Indian Trail and is also known to frequent the 600 block of Sterling Court in DeKalb.

Police said the burglary took place at an apartment on the same block as Gant's Aurora address.

Police said about $1,150 in computer equipment, electronics and video games was taken from the residence sometime between 7:40 and 11 a.m. on Feb. 18.

Police focused on Gant the day after the burglary when two community policing officers were reviewing calls for service in their assigned districts. After learning of the burglary, they searched the online system to which all pawn shops and resale stores in Aurora must list their transactions along with the identifying information of the customer who initiated them.

The officers located the stolen electronics at a resale shop on the 800 block of North Lake Street, which recorded that Gant was the person who sold the goods.

Police said Gant is 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs 245 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Aurora police at (630) 256-5500, Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000, or their local law enforcement agency.

Callers to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to his arrest.
