Color Easter eggs at Des Plaines History Center

The Des Plaines History Center will partner with the Russian community for a family program about Easter eggs from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, April 4, at the History Center, 781 Pearson St., Des Plaines.

"I contacted the church, and they are happy to do this," said Gordana Trbuhovich of Chicago. "I will talk to the teachers and see who can come. They're the best people to do this."

The History Center has presented this program for a few years but has never had someone from Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral, a Russian Orthodox Church in Des Plaines, join them in this effort.

"We are very excited to have this opportunity to welcome everyone to the Des Plaines History Center," said Shari Caine, executive director of the History Center. "It is a great way to share and learn about cultural traditions among people living in the Des Plaines area today."

Children will learn about the Easter traditions of the Russian Orthodox Church and paint an egg to take home. The program is designed for children ages 5-12 with an adult. The fee is $3 per child for nonmembers, $2 for members.
