West Frankfort man pleads guilty in wife's shooting death
BENTON, Ill. (AP) - A southern Illinois man accused of fatally shooting his wife in the back of the head has pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder.
The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan (http://bit.ly/19BEMC0 ) reports 66-year-old John P. Adams of West Frankfort entered the guilty plea Monday. His murder trial before Franklin County Judge Tom Tedeschi began last week.
State's Attorney Evan Owens told the newspaper Tuesday that the plea wasn't part of a negotiated deal between himself and Adams.
Murder charges were filed against Adams when his wife, 52-year-old Kendra Adams, died on April 1, a day after she was shot.
Adams is expected to return to court next month for a status hearing.
