Mass-shooting simulation to be staged at Barrington High School
A large-scale active shooter drill will be staged at Barrington High School Friday morning, where hundreds of police officers, firefighters and even SWAT personnel will descend on the building while students are away for the first day of spring break.
The drill, organized by the Barrington Police and Fire Departments, will feature a law enforcement representative playing the part of a gunman shooting up the school.
"To make the drill as lifelike as possible, police will fire real weapons (without bullets) and victims will have makeup applied to simulate injuries," a media release sent out by the district Thursday afternoon read.
While students revel in their freedom from school, staff members will be trapped in it during the drill, learning how best to act were this to happen for real.
Law enforcement and staff members will begin to prepare for the drill at 6 a.m. and it will begin at 8 a.m.
