'Indulgence' to open Friday at The Fine Line

Artists from across the country submitted original artwork for the "Indulgence" gallery exhibit in the Kavanagh Gallery at Fine Line Creative Arts Center, 37W570 Bolcum Road, in St. Charles.

It will open Friday, March 20, with a reception from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The exhibit will run through April 18. Josephine Burke, director of the NIU Art Museum at Northern Illinois University, will address attendees at the opening reception. The event is free and open to the public.

Almost anything is possible, with this juried show's theme, from extravagance and luxury to tolerance and mercy. All types of artistic media will be included in this exhibition that required artists to submit works that explore and interpret the concept of "indulgence."

"I was inspired by the idea of personal shrines," said St. Charles-based multimedia artist Katherine Steinbring. "I couldn't decide which of my vices I wanted to celebrate, so I picked three of them: books, chocolate and wine. And they're all publicly acceptable!"

Three jurors have chosen what will appear in this show from the pool of applicants, based on originality and quality of work.

In recognition of outstanding work, Fine Line will present awards for Best of Show and merit awards of distinction during the opening reception.
