Hear the greats with Trinity Jazz Ensemble

The Trinity International University Jazz Ensemble will present an evening of jazz music at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 27, in the A.T. Olson Chapel on the Deerfield campus, 2065 Half Day Road. The event is free.

Trinity students will perform jazz works from a variety of eras, including pieces by Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Herbie Hancock, and Charlie Parker.

The ensemble is directed by Dr. Constantine Campbell, a professional jazz saxophonist and associate professor of New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

Campbell is from Canberra, Australia, and studied jazz at the Canberra School of Music, Australian National University. He later studied theology at Moore Theological College and earned his Ph.D. in New Testament at Macquarie University in Sydney.

He has served as an associate pastor and as an itinerant evangelist throughout Australia, combining music with evangelism.

While teaching at Moore College, he continued to perform evangelistic jazz concerts on his tenor saxophone with churches around Australia. These experiences led him to write "Outreach and the Artist," a book of collected wisdom about how to harness the power of the arts for evangelism and also how to reach artistic communities.

Campbell's current teaching responsibilities at Trinity still allow him to pursue his love of jazz music, particularly through directing and playing in the Trinity Jazz Ensemble.
