Get in your order for Elgin Lions' annual Rose Day

Members of the Elgin Lions Club are conducting the club's 31st annual Rose Day.

They will be selling one dozen long-stemmed roses for $15 between now and Friday, March 27, for delivery on April 1-3.

This is a major fundraising event that began in 1984, and was so well received that it is now an annual affair.

The roses can be ordered from any Elgin Lions Club member, or an order can be placed by calling (847) 289-4206.

If you use the phone number, a Lions Club member will return your call to take the information needed for the delivery and to make arrangements for payment. Orders can also be placed by mailing delivery information and a check to Elgin Lions Club, P.O. Box 276, Elgin, IL 60121.

Also, arrangements have been made with Ziegler's Ace Hardware at 215 N. Spring St. and 1158 Lillian St. in Elgin, to assist the club by having order forms and a secure container to leave the order forms and the payment.

The roses are flown here shortly before they are to be delivered directly to the homes of the recipients in the Elgin area by members of the Lions Club or other people eager to help out the less fortunate in our community. Those who received them in the past have been impressed by their quality. They compare favorably with roses costing five times as much.

Proceeds of the sale will be used to further the charitable works of the Elgin Lions Club. The club provides eye care for those in the community, especially students of Elgin Area School District U-46 and others who need it but have difficulty affording it. The club also participates and donates money to other worthy charitable causes. Nearly all of the money collected by the various fundraisers of the Elgin Lions Club remains in the Elgin area for the benefit of local people, and the money that goes to Lions International and the Lions of Illinois Foundation is used to help needy people wherever in the world they may live.

The Elgin Lions Club, which has been doing good works for citizens of the Elgin area since 1921, is grateful for the fine support provided by the community. The club will celebrate 94 years of service this fall.
