What is The Book Bridge: a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization headquartered in Grayslake, Illinois. Since 2011, The Book Bridge has provided new and gently used books to kids and teens in crisis throughout northeast Illinois.

Why The Book Bridge is different from other literacy charities: The Book Bridge serves both children and teens and it takes the extra step to ask these kids what they want to read. Book coaches work with the kids one on one and encourage "wish lists" for desired titles, authors and genres. The book coaches then work diligently to make those wishes come true. Each child receives up to 12 books per year through age 17. The books are free and theirs to keep forever. The Book Bridge gives kids in crisis choices and listens to their voices.

The Book Bridge Mission:

The Book Bridge supports, motivates and inspires children in crisis situations to read. We provide individualized access to books and other materials geared toward increasing literacy skills, while also providing children with a healthy emotional outlet to stress. We serve youth up to age 18 who are in physical, economical, emotional or mental health crisis situations.
