Mundelein educator tapped as Fenton principal
An assistant principal in Mundelein District 120, James Ongtengco, has been named principal of Fenton High School in Bensenville and will assume his new duties July 1.
Ongtengco will replace Todd Leden, who has served as principal and associate superintendent in Fenton District 100 and is leaving at the end of the school year to become superintendent in Kaneland Unit District 302.
Ongtengco agreed to a three-year contract that will pay him $140,000 a year.
He has been working in Mundelein since 2008. He began his career as a science teacher and also served as assistant principal at Belvidere School District 100. He has a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois and a master's from Northern Illinois University.
“The selection of a principal is arguably one of the most important personnel decisions,” Fenton Superintendent Kathie Pierce said in a news release. “I am confident James will have a long-term positive impact on Fenton High School.”
School board President Mary Ribando said the board believes Ongtengco “will be a tremendous asset to our student body, the district and community.”
Ongtengco was a Golden Apple nominee in 1997 and received both the Mundelein Diversity Award and the Mundelein Star Award.
Fenton serves roughly 1,500 students in Bensenville and Wood Dale.
