New York man pleads guilty to Wheeling theft

A Brooklyn, N.Y. man pleaded guilty Tuesday to using a fraudulent credit card to make about $18,000 in purchases at a Wheeling Walmart store and at several Target stores.

Prince Omigie, 27, was sentenced to two years in prison and ordered to pay $444 in fines, court records shows. His co-defendant Zacky Taylor, 25, of Copiague, N.Y., pleaded guilty to the same charges in January and was sentenced to 30 months probation and ordered to pay $694 in fines.

Prosecutors say Omigie and Taylor made purchases at the Walmart store on Sept. 15, 2014 using fake credit or debit cards. Both men admitted to police that they flew from New York for that purpose, authorities said.

After Taylor used a fake credit card to load $800 onto a Walmart gift card, Omigie attempted to do the same using several different credit cards but the transactions were declined, prosecutors said. Additionally, police recovered 16 Target gift cards worth $1,000, which they say Omigie and Taylor obtained by using fake credit or debit cards.
